Abstract/Summary

The theory and background to the exchange of trace gases at the Earth’s surface are presented as an introduction to the experimental methods used for measuring trace gas exchange, and the roles of weather and surface vegetation in controlling the process. Measurement systems over a range of spatial scales, including small chambers, micrometeorological techniques, and aircraft studies, are described, and the use of measurement data in deposition models is briefly introduced.
