Abstract/Summary

A method has been developed to estimate the theoretical exergy of compressed air energy storage under isothermal air storage conditions and applied to solution-mined caverns deployed in layered halite. A theoretical cavern placement was generated in the QGIS environment and screened considering the geological and geographic conditions. Finally, the Isothermal Compressed Air Energy Storage (ICAES) exergy for the Triassic layered halite in Dorset was estimated. The result shows that a total number of 12056 caverns can be deployed with maximum operation pressure exceeding 250 bars, with an estimated total exergy capacity of 13.386 TWh.
