Abstract
Throughout the trade statistics given in this document, materials imported or exported on government account have been included as far as possible.
Trade statistics given for the United Kingdom include the trade of Great Britain and Northern Ireland with the Irish Free State and exclude the direct foreign trade of the Irish Free State. Trade statistics given for Japan and Formosa do not include trade between each of these two countries, such information being separately published for certain important items.
Production statistics given in the case of Bavaria refer only
to that part of Bavaria lying to the east of the Rhine.
In those cases where values are given in place of quantities,
these values have been converted to I. sterling at average rates
of exchange, except where otherwise indicated.
The units of quantity adopted are the British statute cwt.
and ton of 112 lb. (avdp.) and 2,240 lb. (avdp.) respectively. the
imperial gallon and the metric carat. For precious metals the troy
ounce of 480 grains has been used. \\rhere original figures of the
production of petroleum have been given in barrels, conversion to
long tons has been made at the rate of 7 barrels = 1 long ton.
References are to notes appearing at the end of each table.
