Woods, M.A.. 2011 Stratigraphical interpretation of Chalk Group macrofossils from Sheet 266 (Marlborough) : May 2011. Nottingham, UK, British Geological Survey, 34pp. (IR/11/064) (Unpublished)
Abstract
Macrofossils from surface and outcrop exposures of the Chalk Group on Sheet 266
(Marlborough) were collected in May 2011 in connection with the resurvey of that district. The
material ranges from the Mantelliceras mantelli Zone to the Micraster coranguinum Zone, and
can be assigned to the West Melbury Marly Chalk, Zig Zag Chalk, New Pit Chalk, Lewes
Nodular Chalk and Seaford Chalk formations. The higher, typically softer part of the Lewes
Nodular Chalk, locally produces a brash with common, thick inoceramid shell fragments, that
may be mistaken for Seaford Chalk.
