Fourier transform Raman spectroscopic study of fungi

Edwards, H. G. M.; Russell, N. C.; Weinstein, R.; Wynn-Williams, D. D.. 1995 Fourier transform Raman spectroscopic study of fungi. Journal of Raman Spectroscopy, 26 (8-9). 911-916. 10.1002/jrs.1250260843

Abstract
Fourier transform (FT) Raman spectra of the cell walls of three species of fungi are reported for the first time, namely (i) Agaricus bisporus, a fruiting bud, (ii) Mortierella genus and (iii) Mucor genus. Some molecular assignments are proposed for the major vibrational features and attributed to chitin, N-acetylglucosamine and (R)-glucan. Preliminary studies indicate that it is possible to use FT-Raman spectroscopy to discriminate between different mixed species in culture media.
