Everest, Jeremy; Witney, Paul. Virkisjökull Glacier Observatory:2 year icefall timelapse. 30 May 2013, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSV2mIFMj9k [Output (Electronic)]
Abstract
A video published on the BGS YouTube channel shows a 2 year timelapse from the BGS Virkisjökull Glacier Observatory in Iceland. It shows just how dynamic glaciers really are. This film takes daily noon-time images from one of the BGS automated weather stations, between April 2011 and 29/5/2013. It shows the ice flowing through the icefall on Falljökull, the eastern arm of the glacier. Immediately below the icefall the ice flows at roughly 50 meters per year, or around 15cm a day, but the icefall itself is faster flowing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSV2mIFMj9k
