Abstract
This report is part of the deliverables of the European project SCENES: Water Scenarios for Europe and Neighbouring States (EU FP6 GOCE 036822). The report discusses the approach and the results of the first ‘fast-track’ phase of the SCENES project. The impacts of future scenarios are calculated using output from the ‘WaterGAP’-model: a grid-based European scale model that computes water availability and water use. Because of the large scale of the model, spatial and temporal resolution may be different from smaller scale models. Methods to quantify impacts that are suitable for these smaller scales may need to be adjusted to be used in combination with WaterGAP. A major role of the fast-track, and of this report, was to explore the possiblities of WaterGAP as well as of the preferred impact calculation methods and develop methods to match the two in the remaining phases of the project. As a result, this report presents initial approaches and results. A number of analyses will be carried out in a different (more advanced way) in the second phase of the project.
