Abstract/Summary

In 2012, a total of 42 new groundwater methane samples were collected and analysed from three areas — in south Wales; Lancashire and Cheshire; and Kent, East and West Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire. A number of groundwater methane values also exist for other areas from previous studies, in particular Scotland's Central Belt and parts of south Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and areas around London. These datasets have been combined to give a preliminary summary of methane concentrations in groundwater in these areas. http://bgs.ac.uk/research/groundwater/quality/methane_baseline_initial_results.html
