A holistic methodology for the mapping of landslides in the Bath area

This report describes the currently available data in the Bath area and a field reconnaissance visit, with reference to the remapping of the Foundered Strata on the Bath sheet 265. This was carried out in order to assess the best methods to use to differentiate between ground affected by cambering and landsliding from ground unaffected by either process.
The report provides an assessment of field and remote mapping techniques in order to provide a more accurate demarcation of the Foundered Strata on the Sheet as part of the BGS research programme; Integrated Geoscience Surveys, Southwest region.
The first part of the report introduces the project and gives a brief history of earlier geological reserch in the Bath area and the importance of geohazard mapping for the user community. The second part of the report assesses the amount of data currently held within NGRC, and the BGS Library and its usefulness in aiding the remapping of Foundered Strata.
The third and final part of the report outlines suggested methods for the remapping Foundered Strata, taking into account the inherent difficulties in mapping areas where the current landscape has been affected by a complex mixture of post-depositional processes.
