Abstract/Summary

The direct detection of hydrocarbons with the seismic technique is one of the main goals of current geophysical research. Amongst the many direct hydrocarbon indicators which have been proposed, the AVO technique has received by far the greatest attention in the literature. The technique has inspired confidence in large part through its ability to relate the observed phenomena directly to rock and fluid properties through robust seismic modeling and rock physics relationships.
