Abstract/Summary

The eco-toxicological effects of organic micro-contaminants released into water via WwTPs through the everyday use of common commercial products are of concern to regulators. This study was designed to predict concentrations of two such compounds – triclosan and linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) and methyl-triclosan a metabolite of triclosan in river reaches in England and Wales downstream of significant WwTP discharges. The predicted concentrations are to be used in a risk assessment by Unilever PLC as part of its environmental research programme.
