Abstract/Summary

This report describes the geology of the River Tern catchment in East Shropshire, and is one of a series of studies commissioned under the Lowland Catchment Research programme (LOCAR). The objective of the study was to synthesise existing geological information and to produce a Geographical Information System to underpin hydrogeological research in the catchment. The report has been compiled from published information, and source material held in the databases of the British Geological Survey (BGS) or provided by the Environment Agency. It covers 3 major topic areas: - structure of the Permo-Triassic aquifer system - description of the Permo-Triassic formations, and - characterisation of the superficial deposits The work has been carried out concurrently with a study commissioned by the Environment Agency, and the support provided by the Agency is, here, acknowledged. An electronic version of this report and digital outputs are included on the accompanying CD.
