Abstract/Summary

Of approximately 800 Giant Petrel chicks banded at F.I.D.S. bases in 1956, fourteen were recovered later in the year from Chile, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. The results compare with similar records from A.N.A.R.E. sources and suggest that the young birds disperse northward and eastward on leaving the nest. The recorded limits of the breeding range are reviewed and the existence of a colony below the Antarctic Circle is reported.
