Abstract/Summary

An artificial nest incorporating an automated weighing device, suitable for chick growth studies on some species of seabirds, is described. (2) The operating weight range is 1-7 kg, with an accuracy of ±15 g throughout; data can be recorded onto magnetic tape automatically and multiple nests may be operated simultaneously. (3) Sample data from grey-headed albatrosses, showing the recording of the timing, size and frequency of meals and the pattern of weight loss by chicks between meals, are presented
