Abstract/Summary

Malawi is a landlocked co untry in southern Africa, situated between Zambia, Mozambique and Tanzania (Figure 1). The country has a total land area of around 118,500 s quare kilometres. Lake Malawi (formerly Lake Nyasa), some 580 km long, is the largest lake in Africa and forms a significant part of the eastern national border.
