Abstract/Summary

This dataset is collected from an automatic lake monitoring buoy located in Cumbria, England, on Bassenthwaite Lake. The buoy carries a range of meteorological instruments and in-lake temperature sensors; data given here include air temperature, solar radiation, wind speed and lake temperature profile. Air temperature is measured in degrees C, the solar radiation flux is measured in Watts per metre squared and the wind speed is measured in metres per second. Lake water temperatures are measured by platinum resistance thermometers in degrees C at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 m depth. The instruments measure data every 4 minutes, the hourly averages provided in this dataset are calculated by a Campbell Scientific datalogger. The average is calculated over the previous hour, e.g. the value for 2 p.m. is the average of the data between 1 and 2 p.m., excluding the data measured at 1 p.m., including the data measured at 2 p.m. All data is given in GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) and dates from 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.
