Abstract/Summary

I must admit that before reading this book, I had only known the name of J.W. Gregory because of that part of the East African Rift that bears his name. The author, Bernard Leake, makes a similar admission in his Preface and has gone to great lengths to set the record straight. The book is a very fine and comprehensive documentation of a remarkable and dizzyingly productive polymath geologist whose professional career spanned a golden age for the natural scientist.
