Until the publication of the Flood Estimation Handbook (FEH) in 1999, UK practice in flood estimation was based on the methods outlined in the Flood Studies Report (FSR) published by NERC (1975) and refined in a number of supplementary reports over the subsequent decade. The analysis reported here compares rainfall frequency estimates derived from a number of different methods at 66 daily raingauge locations near reservoir sites with a view to assessing the extent to which the results of the FEH model exceed those of the FSR.
