Abstract/Summary

A formal stratigraphy is established for the lower Ordovician rocks in the Dornes-Figueiro dos Vinhos area, central Portugal. Two new formational names are introduced for this part of the sequence: Serra do Brejo Formation and Brejo Fundeiro Formation. The lithofacies and ichnology is discussed in the framework of a suggested palaeoenvironment and two previously unrecorded trace fossils, Merostomichnites ichnosp. and Rosselia socialis Dahmer are described.
