This report is an account of the Tellus geochemical sampling field campaign carried out between Monday 17th October and Sunday 26th November 2005. 1321 surface and subsurface soil samples were collected from areas north of Lough Neagh and north and west of Belfast, covering a total area of approximately 2622 km2, and thus completing all sampling in the north of Northern Ireland. In addition 19 drainage site samples were collected from sites near Saintfield, Co. Down that were previously uncollected due to biosecurity and landowner concerns, and soils and drainage sites were sampled on Rathlin Island. A team comprising two field team leaders and up to twelve voluntary workers (VWs) were based at three field bases: Moneymore, Co. Londonderry, Ballygally near Larne, Co. Antrim and Armoy, Co. Antrim. In an effort to fulfil QC requirements and to make best use of the availability of VWs, a further two weeks of work was carried out immediately after fieldwork for checking of all previously unchecked field data, stable base maps and field databases. For this six VWs were based in Stranmillis College, Belfast until Friday 9th December 2005. Field procedures were carried out following the G-BASE 2005 field procedures manual. An account of Health and Safety incidents and recommendations for future campaigns are included.
