The BGS analytical geochemistry laboratories in Keyworth analyse samples for G-BASE. This report describes the collection, collation, verification and storage of the analytical results for the solid samples. The laboratories analytical records are stored in a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) data checking, collation and verification are carried out in this system. A Microsoft Access routine is used to extract information for specified samples and transfer them to tables in the corporate Geochemistry Database. These tables hold the data in its “raw” state, i.e. as delivered by the laboratories, before any further G-BASE processing takes place. This allows the analytical data to become more widely available in a much shorter timescale than previously and facilitates secure permanent storage in the corporate system.
