Abstract/Summary

The common guillemot is the most frequently oiled species of seabird in the United Kingdom. Analyses of ringing data indicate that survival prospects of rehabilitated individuals have been extremely poor compared to wild birds. In recent years considerable effort and resources have been directed at improving rehabilitation methods, in particular investigating whether the weight and condition of birds can be improved by keeping them in sea cages during the weeks prior to release and also by trying to target the most favourable environmental conditions for the birds' release.
