Abstract/Summary

The Indogangetic Plain (India) is host to a number of large cities across it’s ~1500km length. These settlements are intimately linked to the numerous rivers that flow across the axial foreland basin, with the Ganges River being the most famously known example. Using modern sedimentological principles it is possible to link recent geological history to early colonisation of the area and delve into the interactions between the Ganges River and the regions rich and diverse religious and cultural history.
